Carlos Tighe

Research Associate

Mr. Tighe is a Research Associate with the Applied Innovations team at the Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics at the University of Galway. He initially studied philosophy before transitioning to computer sciences. His work involves the application of research in industry settings. He has worked on the Participate project, an online CBT application, the Global Energy Management System project with Boston Scientific, the H2020 Atlas project with the MaREI Centre, and the PANDEM-2 project. PANDEM-2, an H2020 EU-funded project, aimed to develop new solutions for efficient, EU-wide pandemic management, preparing Europe for future pandemics through innovations in training and building capacity between EU member states for cross-border pandemic responses.

CURRENT ACTIVITIES

Most recently, Carlos has been working with Boston Scientific on implementing an energy-efficient design process for machine builds as part of the continuation of the GEMS project. He has been consulting on the MOSSI (Managing Open Source Software in Irish Universities) project. He will be working in the marine spatial planning area with the European project BioProtect, and also working on the auto-segmentation of medical imaging.

BACKGROUND

Mr. Tighe studied locally at the University of Galway. He received a BA in Arts and then went on to complete an MA in philosophy. He completed the Higher Diploma (Software Design and Development—Industry Stream) and transitioned to computer sciences in 2013. He has been working within the Applied Innovations in the Data Science Institute at the University of Galway, and at Insight, an SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics, where he collaborates with industry on various projects.
