Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, fixed term position as a Research assistant with Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics at the University of Galway, Ireland.

This position is funded by [funding agency] and is available from 1st October 2024 to the contract end date of 30th September 2025.
Salary: Research Assistant salary scale €31,462 – €41,443 per annum, (subject to the project’s funding limitations), and
pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts.
The default position for all new public sector appointments is the 1st point of the salary scale. This may be reviewed, and consideration afforded to appointment at a higher point on the pay scale (subject to the project’s funding limitations), where evidence of prior years’ equivalent experience is accepted in determining placement on the scale above point 1, subject to the maximum of the scale.

Job Description:
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the data and Federated learning and blockchain technology within the Seafood supply chain in the Dataspace landscape in Irish Industries, research the design and development of Foundation Models for dataspace, Federated Learning, edge computing, and blockchain for traceability of seafood safety and quality. You will participate in cross-consortium meetings with academic and industry project partners and engage within external events with stakeholders in Irish seafood industries.
The successful candidates will be based in the Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics at the University of Galway. The candidates will be supported in their professional development, be able to avail of a range of career level focussed training opportunities, have the potential to publish research findings in leading reputation journals and international events.

Essential Requirements:
Master’s degree in computer science or a closely related field
Desirable Requirements:
Understanding of Federated learning, blockchain, and dataspace
