I finished my undergraduate Physiotherapy degree at UCD in 2023, and during my final year, I got the opportunity to work as a Research Assistant in Insight as part of a project developing an exercise app for smartphones. The project was a collaboration with Samsung, and the app used Reinforcement Learning to personalise home workout videos for individual users. Following this successful and enjoyable project, I completed a Research Masters on the topic of wearable devices, which involved validating the accuracy of health measurements, such as heart rate variability and VO2max, from the Apple Watch.
Evolving from my Research Masters, my PhD project will build on the knowledge I have gained and involves the development of a health biosignature. The aim is to combine multiple measurements from wearable devices to create a bespoke metric which provides insights into health, possibly reflecting improvements or disimprovements in health status over time.
My beyond-the-desk life revolves around family & friends, music, technology, and sport. I play hurling for Bray Emmets and have a keen interest in soccer. I follow all things related to tech – from new phone releases to software updates, and I also play the guitar.
