Liam is a senior software engineer with extensive experience of the entire software stack. He has worked in application development, middleware, database development, system administration, data management, and data analytics, and in commercial as well as academic environments.
Liam’s background and skillset mean that he thrives in the context of interdisciplinary projects with industry collaboration, bringing state-of-the-art research techniques to bear on real-world industry problems, thus enhancing the competitiveness of industry partners. A recent example has been the efficient application of sentiment analysis to large bodies of text assembled by an industry partner, allowing new insights and opportunities to be discovered from the texts in a reasonable time. Sentiment analysis is an approach that allows for more meaningful digital reading of texts. It’s a critical component of Artificial Intelligence – creating computers that have a better ‘understanding’ of the language humans use.
