Insight@ NUI Galway’s Joana Barros has been making waves in the national media recently. Her research on the validity of Google Trends for suicide forecasting in Ireland featured on RTE 2Fm, the Irish Mail on Sunday and in the Irish Examiner.

Barros examined how certain internet search terms related to monthly suicide deaths reported by the Central Statistics office from the 11-year period from 2004 to 2015. Her work has just been published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.
