Insight@NUI Galway’s Dr Lukasz Porwol is quoted in a number of media articles today about a report, Trust in Research, published by Elsevier.
The report, which was conducted in partnership with the charity Sense About Science, polled 3,133 researchers in May, and a separate earlier study captured 1,500 responses in March found that scientists spend almost as much time searching for articles as they do actually reading them.
Furthermore, the report says that this abundance of data and also a lack of confidence in the multitude of scientific research is adding to researcher workload and potentially impacting public confidence in science.
Dr Porwol has worked with Elsevier for a number of years. He is quoted in the article, along with Elsevier’s Adrian Mulligan, warning that the issue could impact recruitment into research careers. The piece has been published in a variety of national and international outlets. You can read the articles in the Daily Mail, the Irish Examiner, BreakingNews.ie and the Belfast Telegraph.
