"Altmetrics: Making It Count" - Insight researcher gives talk at Nature SpotOn Conference in London
The Journal Impact Factor and alternative metrics were hot topics at this year's Nature SpotOn (Science Policy, Outreach and Tools Online) conference. Held at the British Library in London, the conference hosted a session titled "Altmetrics: Making It Count", organised by Insight student Marie Boran. The session looked at how research assessment could be changed, and even improved, by including metrics on the online attention a scholarly article has received across social media sites like Twitter and Facebook as well as scholarly ones such as Mendeley and CiteULike. Ahead of the conference Marie write a piece for Nature.com's SpotOn blog reflecting on the importance of making online scholarly activity count.
