Insight at UCD are delighted to announce the third ‘Science of Running Symposium’, organised by the Insight Centre for Data Analytics in collaboration with the Jerry Kiernan Foundation.
This year,  the event will take place on January 18th in the Auditorium in the UCD Village. Prof Andy Jones will deliver the keynote address to kick the event off this year. Prof Jones is a world leading exercise physiologist who has carried out pioneering research related to elite and recreational athlete performance. He is best known for his work with leading athletes such as Eliud Kipchoge, with whom he guided in the Nike Breaking 2 Project in recent years. He has also led research demonstrating the beneficial effects of beetroot, hence his nickname – ‘Andy Beetroot’.
Andy’s presentation will focus on how you can take inspiration from research with elite athletes to break personal records. There will also be talks from Ireland’s up and coming research leaders, who will share their expertise on running-related research.
Dr Ciara Feely will share  insights from her research on the Strava dataset. Ciaran Purcell will discuss his research with athletes and clinicians regarding their experiences in dealing with pain and injury and Dr Sinead Holden will discuss her work related to injuries and pain in adolescent athletes. The day will finish with a 1:1 interview with Ciara Mageean, carried out by Ian O’Riordan from the Irish Times. Following Ian’s interview there will be an opportunity to put questions to Ciara.
As always, there is no fee for this event. However, attendees are strongly encouraged to make a donation within their means to the Jerry Kiernan Foundation to enable them to continue with their important work in Jerry’s memory. Make sure to register at:
