Dr Alessandra Mileo contributed to an AI for Good panel discussion event last week in Brianza, Italy. The event was organised by the Social Services Coop: Consorzio Comunità Brianza in collaboration with industry sponsor Blockchain4future. The event explored some of the potential opportunities and challenges that AI can present.
Key areas discussed were how social service organisations without internal IT or funding could upskill in AI. How they could leverage AI to facilitate access to jobs and education for people with disabilities that are registered to the social services and how small SMEs can take advantage of some of the opportunities AI can offer them. As an AI expert Dr Mileo addressed both the potential societal impacts of AI and the EU approach to addressing them. Education, awareness and upskilling were the key takeaways of the day. The event also provided a platform for exploring collaboration opportunities and Dr Mileo has initiated discussions with Blockchain4future CEO, Edoardo Misino, on possible opportunities for a joint EU funding application.
This AI for Good event formed part of a series of events and initiatives which were run in collaboration with local industry consortia in Brianza, in the Lombardy Region of Northern Italy and the Social Services Coop: Consorzio Comunità Brianza. The Consorzio Comunità Brianza, is a social enterprise whose main goal is to promote synergies and collaborations between public and private organisations to create social projects that support equal opportunities for all. The aim of this series of events is to generate awareness and greater understanding of the potential of AI for operators of social services and local industries.
