The Insight SFI Research Centre Team at UCD took part in the fantastic UCD Festival on Saturday June 10th. The festival, now in it’s 8th Year, see’s the University open it’s doors providing an opportunity to see behind the scenes, discover something new and meet the students and world-class academics.
The Insight Team had a stand ‘Insights to your Data’, as part of the Intel Science and Innovation Zone, in the O’Brien Centre for Science. The team delved into the data of body movements and tested people’s reaction times, jump height and hand grip strength in different ways, showcasing how digital technology has revolutionised this area through our spin out Output Sports’ technology. They also provided an opportunity to learn coding for 3+ year olds with the Cubetto Robot that journeyed across the solar system, even the adults enjoyed the challenge!
A host of Insighters also helped out on other stands including in Engineering – exploring a Sense of touch for Robots, in Maths and Statistics looking at the Maths behind origami paper folding and health eating and the importance of Soil at the Food and Health stand. Aoibhéann Bird, our EPE manager, Insight UCD, also helped train 20 Intel staff members to deliver fun experiment activities from our Little Big Questions programme which is partially funded by Intel and who are festival sponsors this year.
Many thanks to all the Insighters who took part, making the day a great experience for all who attended. Insight is looking forward to next year’s event already!
