Output Sports, the Irish sports technology company, has announced details of its expansion into the US market. The company made the announcement following a meeting with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar TD at Fenway Park (yesterday afternoon), the home of the Boston Red Sox baseball team.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar TD has commenced a programme of events in Boston with Irish companies scaling in the US, including Output Sports, in advance of his traditional St. Patrick’s Day meeting with President Joe Biden at the White House in Washington DC.
Output Sports is seeking to collaborate with the Boston Red Sox team as part of its investment in the State of Massachusetts.
Output Sports’ products enable strength and conditioning coaches, sport scientists and rehab professionals, to fully understand and optimise their athletes’ performance using a single wearable sensor system. The company’s technology is currently used by sports practitioners across 30+ countries, including in the USA and in multiple sports.
In late 2022 Output Sports launched a V2 product which has led to significant US growth with over 300 new clients onboarded, including flagship clients in the NFL, WNSL, MLB, NHL, WNBA and NBA.
Output Sports, a University College Dublin (UCD) spin-out and an Enterprise Ireland client company, is now doubling down on its US focus to accelerate its mission of making elite level sports-science simple and scalable.
The company recently established a new office in Boston and co-founder and CEO, Dr Martin O’Reilly has also relocated from Ireland to Boston to further build Output’s US growth team which includes 5 new US hires to date. Former Leinster and Ireland rugby player Adam Byrne was earlier this year appointed as Output Sports’ Commercial Manager for North America.
Dr Martin O’Reilly, CEO and co-founder said, “Since the launch of our V2 product we have seen tremendous growth in the USA with product usage across elite sport, education settings and gyms. It is an incredibly exciting time for us at Output as we double down on the US opportunity, and it is a privilege to have this recognised as part of this week’s US St. Patrick’s events. I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank Enterprise Ireland for their continuing support both here in the States and in Ireland.”
Output Sports, headquartered at NovaUCD in Dublin was co-founded in 2018 by Dr Martin O’Reilly, Dr Darragh Whelan, Julian Eberle and Professor Brian Caulfield as a spin-out from the UCD School of Public Health, Physiotherapy and Sports Science and the Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics following the completion of Enterprise Ireland Commercialisation Funding.
Earlier this week, leading the US delegation, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Leo Clancy announced Enterprise Ireland’s St. Patrick’s Day programme of over 50 overseas business events, marking the enormous impact of Irish companies across the globe.
Speaking earlier this week Taoiseach Leo Varadkar TD said, “We are really proud that Irish companies are proving successful at home and abroad thanks to their focus on innovation.
Ireland’s strong industrial base, and our world-class research and development ecosystem, is helping many Irish companies to grow at a rapid pace in international markets. Ireland is a very open economy, with huge exports relative to our size. We have some extraordinary Irish companies who are the best at what they do globally. This St Patrick’s Day programme for 2024 is a great platform to showcase Irish companies that are scaling rapidly through world-class innovation.”
Leo Clancy, CEO of Enterprise Ireland said; “Irish companies are scaling internationally at an accelerated pace, establishing new presences, and making significant investments and acquisitions in international markets, to serve their growing international customer base. Their growth internationally, strengthens their business, delivering job creation in Ireland and boosts Ireland’s economy. Irish businesses account for two-thirds of Irish jobs, and we are focused on further strengthening this position. They are the economic cornerstones in communities across Ireland.
“Supporting Irish-owned companies to achieve greater scale and expand their global footprint is a priority for our organisation. This is the focus of our programme of 50 events across the world for St. Patrick’s Day, showcasing the success of Irish companies to international buyers.”
