The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment has published AI: Here for Good, A National Artificial Intelligence Strategy for Ireland.
Launched yesterday by Taoiseach, Micheál Martin TD, and Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Digital and Company Regulation, Robert Troy TD, the National AI Strategy will serve as a roadmap for how Ireland can leverage the potential of AI for unlocking productivity, for addressing societal challenges, and for delivering public services. It envisions a future for Ireland as an international leader in using AI to the benefit of business, public services, and – most importantly – for people, through a people-centered, ethical approach to AI development, adoption and use.
In a major acknowledgement of Insight’s work in the area of Trustworthy AI, these efforts are highlighted and cited in the document. Insight@UCC’s hosting of the HLEG-AI’s Assessment List for Trustworthy AI is mentioned for example.
In addition, some of Professor Barry O’Sullivan’s international work, specifically the EU Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI are widely referred to and have provided a framework for the compilation of this document.
