PhD Position

We invite applications for a PhD fellowship at the INSIGHT Centre for Data Analytics, Dublin City University. The position is funded by Research Ireland under the Frontiers for the Future Programme. The research project will be carried forward in collaboration with the UCD School of Medicine and the Centre for Multimodal AI at Queen Mary University of London.
The topic:
This research project will focus human-centered explainability in computer vision applied to medical imaging. The candidate will explore and design a method for semantic neurons activation analysis and generate a flexible intermediate representation that could bridge the gap between commonsense knowledge, deep representation learning, and cognitive reasoning, and is therefore expected to gain experience across these areas. The target proof-of-concept application would be on the analysis of cardiac MRI for early diagnosis of specific cardiomyopathies in collaboration with the UCD School of Medicine, including academics and trainee radiologists, as well as cardiologists from local hospitals.
Candidate skillset:
The candidate should have a Masters degree in a relevant field of study with an emphasis on areas such as Deep Learning for Computer Vision, Knowledge Representation and Reasoning, Information Extraction, Graph Analysis, Inductive Rule Learning.
Essential requirements include MSc degree in computer science, artificial intelligence or related discipline, good knowledge of object-oriented design principles, strong background in java and python programming and familiarity with Unix/Linux systems.

This is a 4 year fully funded PhD position, with a PhD scholarship of euro 25,000 per year (no tax, PhD fees are paid) and financial support for training, as well as sponsorship for conference travels.
