MayFest, Vision Sports Ireland’s multi-sport extravaganza weekend, took place in Dublin on May 25th – 26th. This annual event, now in its 43rd year, offers a unique blend of ‘come-and-try’ opportunities, competitive events, and sport demonstrations specifically tailored for individuals who are blind or vision impaired, as well as their family and friends.
This year’s MayFest was held at UCD and featured a jam-packed schedule designed to cater to all interests and abilities. Attendees had the chance to participate in a diverse range of activities including athletics, karate, rugby, rock climbing, tennis, football, and swimming.
The event was made possible through the dedication and collaboration of numerous volunteers from Insight and across the country, as well as the hardworking Vision Sports team. Their collective efforts ensured a supportive and enthusiastic environment for all participants.
In addition to providing a platform for inclusive sports, MayFest also highlights the ongoing partnership between Vision Sports Ireland and Insight DCU. Together, they are engaged in a research project focused on identifying and dismantling the barriers that prevent blind and visually impaired children, young people, and adults from participating in sports.
