Dr. Alcardo Alex Barakabitze completed a PhD in Computing and Communications from the University of Plymouth, UK in 2019. He has served as Marie Curie Fellow MSCA Fellow (2020 – 2022) at Dublin City University, Research Fellow (2019-2020) at the University College Dublin and University of Plymouth,UK. (October 2015– July 2019) in MSCA ITN QoE-Net.
Dr. Barakabitze is recognised as the 2015 outstanding International Graduate Student of Chongqing University, China due his excellent performance. He was a visiting researcher in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, University of Cagliari, Italy and the ITU-T-Standardization Department in 2016 and 2017 respectively. Dr. Barakabitze has participated in the ITU- T standardization process and made significant contributions since 2016 in the area of SDN/NFV, future network performance, QoS and QoE.
Dr. Barakabitze has served as session chair of Future Internet and NGN Architectures during the 2018 IEEE Communication Conference (ICC) in Kansas City, USA. He was also the Keynote and Panel Chairs at the International Young Researcher Summit on Quality of Experience in Emerging Multimedia Services (QEEMS 2017), which was held from May 29–30, 2017 in Erfurt, Germany.
Dr. Barakabitze’s publications including “Multimedia Streaming in SDN/NFV and 5G Networks: Machine Learning for Managing Big Data Streaming – (Wiley-IEEE Press, 2022)” book, with 14 book chapters. He has more than 57 publications in international peer- reviewed conferences and journals with more than 1180 citations on Google Scholar. He has served as the committee member of various professional conferences/workshops and independent external member of degree approvals for BSc and MSc Computer Networking programmes. He has led team or participated in several EU H2020 and industry-funded projects related to multimedia QoE, AI and ICT4D including QoENet, 5GMOVIE, the UNESCO Ai movement initiative, StandICT.eu etc. Dr. Barakabitze is a member of IEEE and a leading expert in computing and communications technologies.
He is a Reviewer for various journals and serves on technical program committees of leading conferences focusing on his research areas. His research interests are artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), SDN, NFV, 5G/6G, network management and telecommunications systems and ICT4D. While at UCD, he will be working on the design and development of Quality of Experience prediction models for targeted use cases using data driven machine learning techniques.
