I am Giorgia Pregnolato, physiotherapist, and now MSCA postdoc fellowship in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in University College Dublin (UCD) in Dublin, Ireland. I have received BS in physical therapy from University of Padua (Italy), and Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Psychological and Psychiatric Sciences, and Movement Sciences from the University of Verona (Italy). I have been working as physiotherapist and researcher for 10 years in a research neurorehabilitation hospital (IRCCS San Camillo Hospital, Venice, Italy). In my research, I am interested in the study of the neurophysiological mechanisms underpinning motor control and how to apply technologies to improve motor recovery in people after neurological disease. I have been collaborating with few companies on development of rehabilitation device or implementation of new features for device control. I am a member of the Digital Technologies group-of-interest in Italian Association of Physiotherapy (AIFI).
In UCD, I will be working on developing a new assessment tool for people with hand motor impairment after stroke, using a wearable device able to detect the muscle activation. My goal is to improve clinical assessment extracting new features by biological signals, such as surface electromyography or kinematic data collected by the subjects.
I like running and playing sports, especially rugby and volleyball. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my friends. I am also a social person, so I like meeting new people to talk about life and share new ideas. I love traveling to learn about new cultures and different ways of living.
