Claudia is a Computer Science PhD Student at the Insight Centre for Data Analytics in UCD, her current work focuses on analyzing and understanding the characteristics of news posts in Social Media that attract attention from the audience. Claudia leverages the power of machine learning, natural language processing, social network analysis, and opinion mining to unveil patterns of engagement, attention and influence on the digital news era. In 2016, Claudia joined the MIT Media Lab for the summer and worked at the MIT Center for Civic Media (https://civic.mit.edu/) where she conducted research with the MediaCloud team (http://mediacloud.org/) on identifying influential American news outlets. Before joining UCD for her Ph.D. studies, Claudia completed her M.Sc. (2013) at the L3S Research Center in the Leibniz University in Hannover, Germany, where she worked on several European research projects involving crowdsourcing, multimedia and sentiment analysis for tasks such as video ranking and presidential popularity prediction. Claudia holds a B.Sc. (2011) degree from the University of El Salvador (UES).
